Barry Bonds, baseball’s record home run hitter, was indicted Thursday by a federal grand jury on perjury and obstruction of justice charges.

Volunteer dodgers denied refugee status

Canada was home to thousands of draft dodgers during the Vietnam war, but it’s Supreme Court ruled against providing refugee status for Americans who have fled to Canada. Unlike the draft dodgers of Vietnam the several dozen AWOL Americans will not be provided refugee status in Canada. Tennessee authorities say a father is accused of raping two teenage daughters and forcing them wear electric dog collars.

The father is charged with aggravated child abuse and two counts of rape. And his wife also faces charges. Prosecutors say she knew about the use of dog collars but not the alleged sexual assaults. She faces charges of aggravated child abuse and failure to report child abuse.

Yahoo stock rises for jailing journalists

A week after lawmakers shamed its executives as moral “pygmies,” Yahoo Inc. on Tuesday reached an out-of-court settlement with the families of two Chinese journalists thrown into jail for dissidence after the company disclosed their identities to local police.

Yahoo promised to pay the families’ legal bills and to create a fund to “provide support to other political dissidents and their families,” but the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company wouldn’t disclose other details of the agreement. Continue Reading »
