Cuba demanding of the U.S.A.

HAVANA (AFP) - Cuba’s government demanded Wednesday that the U.S. return Guantanamo Bay to the island and denounced the “war on terror” prison, where six detainees could face the death penalty.

Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque charged Wednesday that terror suspects being held at the U.S. naval base in the southeastern tip of Cuba have been subjected to torture and face unfair legal treatment. Continue Reading »

Johnson & Johnson unit recall

Johnson & Johnson’s PriCara unit recalled all lots of 25-microgram-per-hour Duragesic CII pain patches that may have a cut edge that could leak fentanyl gel.

The recalled patches, manufactured by Alza Corp. and sold by PriCara and Sandoz Inc. in the U.S. and Canada, have expiration dates on or before December 2009. Patches with 12.5, 50, 75 and 100 mcg/hr strengths aren’t affected. Continue Reading »

Blackberry email service down

BlackBerry email service went down Monday afternoon, according to Research in Motion, maker of the smartphone.

In a service notification sent to CNN, RIM said BlackBerry subscribers “may be unable to send or receive messages and may also be unable to “register their device, roam in another location, or use other services such as Internet browsing.” Continue Reading »

Barack Obama sending more troops to Iraq

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democratic White House hopeful Barack Obama Monday rejected the idea of pausing U.S. troop drawdowns in Iraq, raised earlier in Baghdad by Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

Only Holocaust survivor in Congress dies

WASHINGTON (AP)–Rep. Tom Lantos, who as a teenager twice escaped from a Nazi-run forced labor camp in Hungary and became the only Holocaust survivor to win a seat in the U.S. Congress, has died. He was 80.

Spokeswoman Lynne Weil said Lantos, who headed the House Foreign Affairs Committee, died early Monday, surrounded by his wife, Annette; two daughters; and many of his 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Continue Reading »

Starbucks laughs in the face of Folgers

Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co. raised prices of its Folgers ground coffee by 15 cents per 10.5- to 13-ounce can, effective immediately, reflecting recently higher green coffee prices, spokesman Bryan Brown said Monday.

Folgers increased its instant coffee price by 24 cents per 8-ounce jar, or 6%, he said. Folgers Singles prices and Folgers cappuccino prices were left unchanged. Folgers gourmet prices also remain unchanged. Continue Reading »
