Oregon Craigslist hoaxers caught, used to cover up burglary
|
A week ago an Oregon man came home to find his home being rummaged through by about 30 people. A fake Craigslist ad claimed that the Jacksonville ranch’s owner had to leave town so suddenly that his belongings, which included a horse, were available for the taking. Oregon police got a subpoena for Craigslist records and were able to trace the posting to Brandon Herbert, 29, and Amber Herbert, 28. The couple orchestrated the online hoax as part of a bid to cover up an earlier burglary at the property. The Herberts, investigators charge, did this to cover up their prior theft of several saddles and other items from the garage of the rural southern Oregon house, which is owned by contractor Robert Salisbury.
