Facebook proves the friendless are friendless
|
There are reportedly over 90 million users on Facebook. When a group was added to save virtual whales, there were over 100,000 users signed up within the first 24 hours (that’s the power of viral marketing in Facebook). When an Australian man was injured in an attack on the Greek island of Mykonos, only 1,200 Facebook users cared to click the necessary button to show support.
Clicking a single button doesn’t take a lot of time, but apparently it was more time than Facebook users wanted to dedicate to Doujon Zammit and his cousin, Cameron Tabone, both age 20. Perhaps the virtual whales just needed more support.
The Facebook group “Doujon Zammit- Only The Good Die Young!” had 1,217 members at the time of this writing. There are not a lot of facts about the incidents that led to the beating of Doujon and his cousin by bouncers, but with the life support systems expected to be shut off soon apparently friends, family, strangers, and other Facebook users decided there was another group worth joining more.
