American Airlines loses dead passenger for 4 days
|
Airlines have been losing baggage for nearly 100 years (the world’s first airline was an airship service in Germany in 1909). Although in perhaps one of the worst cases yet American Airlines lost the wife of Miguel Olaya for four days.
His wife of 26 years was being transported to his native Ecuador from burial when it was lost by the airline. Apparently her body took a world tour reported everywhere from Miami to Guatemala. By the time the body was finally found it was badly decomposed.
The error was apparently caused by someone typing in the wrong airport code, and funeral officials claim this is the first lost body in 26 years of dealing with the airline.
The family has of course filed a suit in state Supreme Court in New York and is seeking unspecified damages.
