China caught faking space mission

China’s official news agency Xinhua published articles detailing a successful launch of China’s Shenzhou 7 mission including mission details, dialogue between astronauts all several hours before the Thursday launch.

The article was dated two days in the future – from September 27th and went over the entire mission in great detail.

Excerpts included the following dialogue:

“After this order, signal lights all were switched on, various data show up on rows of screens, hundreds of technicians staring at the screens, without missing any slightest changes …

‘One minute to go!’

‘Changjiang No.1 found the target!’…

“The firm voice of the controller broke the silence of the whole ship. Now, the target is captured 12 seconds ahead of the predicted time …

‘The air pressure in the cabin is normal!’

“Ten minutes later, the ship disappears below the horizon. Warm clapping and excited cheering breaks the night sky, echoing across the silent Pacific Ocean.”

Critics say this is only the latest in a long string of fabrications from China’s state run news agency.

Although no one is disputing the launch happened, it is troublesome that actual details including conversations were actually published more than two days before they were to happen.

  1. Ok so they rehearsed what to say, thats not evidence of faking a space mission, im sorry. Is the article claiming that there was no rocket launch at all? Granted, the reliability of what is published in the media is questionable, but the rocket never launched? Evidence please.

  2. The “media” in this case is an organization run by the Chinese government. Calling this fake story is completely accurate as the launch had not happened yet. The story was written two days in the future with details no one could be sure would be accurate. In space missions there are no guarantees against mission delays for weather, accident or something else happening.
