One of sixteen candidates running for governor in Bangkok was in the middle of a publicity stunt when tragedy struck. Thirasak Sitanont a staffer for the candidate drown with journalists watching on as he attempted to take a bath in a polluted canal.
Residents had been complaining of rashes and problems with the polluted canal and the candidate was attempting to highlight their plight by bathing in it. He was seen waving and crying for help and then disagreed under the murky waters.
Gubernatorial candiate Leena Jangjanya has suspended her campaign following the death of her staff member. Leena is considered a long shot to win the election and was not a front-runner before or after the stunt.
