Study shows drinking red win reducs lung cancer risk

Red Wine may reduce the odds of getting lung cancer, however white wine apparently does not reduce the risk.

People who were non-smokers and drank a glass of red wine every day were 60 percent less likely to get lung cancer than smokers who did not drink alcohol.

The study covered nearly 85 thousand men between 45 and 69 years of age, and was conducted between 2000 and 2006.

The reduction in risk was 4 percent between heavy smokers who had a glass of red wine daily versus those who did not.

Wine drinkers tended to be healthier overall, more educated and have higher income than those who did not drink wine.

After excluding factors including age, education, income, exposure to second-hand smoke, and weight there was a two percent reduction in lung cancer for each glass of red wine consumed per month.

The reduction could be due to compounds present in the red wine that were not present in white wine, beer or other alcohols.
