Roseanne Barr declares blacks are ignorant bigots

Formerly employed alleged comedian Roseanne Barr has lashed out at African Americans for supporting California Proposition 8.

She accused blacks of being ignorant bigots for supporting the constitutional amendment which re-defined marriage as between a man and a woman.

The aging actress said on her blog, “70% of black church going californians who voted this cycle voted for prop 8 (sic)” had “misused” their votes, and were inspired by their “immoral” and “hateful” pastors and clergy.

“They showed themselves every inch as bigoted and ignorant as their white christian right wing counterpartners who voted for mccain-palin and bush-cheney,” she added.

Kathryn Kolbert, president of People for a well known liberal group the American Way, issued a statement condemning comments such as Barr’s.

“As a mother who has raised two children in a 30-year relationship with another woman, I fully understand the depth of hurt and anger at voters’ rejection of our families’ equality,” Kolbert said. “But responding to that hurt by lashing out at African Americans is deeply wrong and offensive — not to mention destructive to the goal of advancing equality.”

  1. Is it only acceptable to recognize and point out bigotry and ignorance when it is within your own community? Needless to say, Roseanne’s own comments are ignorant and bigoted. However, (religions/civil rights) leaders that preach the oppression of others are deserving of ridicule, especially when it is one minority group attacking the rights of another minority group.

  2. i agree with Roseanne—. I am African American and totally see that many black churches in this country spin and spew hate and discrimination on a regular basis directly alongside with the mormons and religious psycho evangelicals.
As a black man I have never taken a handout–i have to wonder how many of those that voted on Prop 8 are also on welfare and section 8—

  3. Paul, I won’t disagree with you (I’m not in a position to argue your African American statement), but I am curious if you could show me where on the map pictured below I could find Africa America.

  4. I hate Obama trying to tell people he’s African American. I’m a proud black man and could tell you that I’m over 90% African. Obama running around saying he’s African when he’s less than 7% African makes me think that I could make a white woman more African (you know, by putting more than 6% of an African inside of her).
