What is amazing is how these extremist muslims believe they have room to say that anyone, other than themselves, is full of hate, a spirit which spreads evil, murder, repression and despotism..." Islamic [shia] law alone is the cause for the lack of freedom in many nations around the world, for discrimination and religious intolerance. In Malaysia, in order to be considered Malay, you must be muslim- that is in their constitution! Further, if you are muslim and want to convert to another religion, you first have to get permission from the Islamic court before the civil court will grant permission to have your ID card changed to reflect that you are not muslim. There are countless lawsuits of discrimination along these lines in Malaysia and Egypt, and every country that has a significant population of muslims is under threat of terrorist attacks- Russia, the Philippines, Egypt, etc. The headlines of discrimination, terrorism and abuses of all kinds can be found in newspapers throughout the world and it doesn't take very much time at all to research information on this topic. The thing is that the moderates and more open-minded muslims say these extremists are not "real" muslims; but the extremists say the moderates and more prorgressive muslims are not "real" muslims. So, what is the truth? Who are the muslims? Well, after reading the first two chapters of the Qua'ran and hundreds of pages of Hadiths, I would have to say that the brutality and terrorism of the extremists is more in line with the actions Mohammed himself, who carried out raids against trade caravans and neighboring settlements of pagans and Jews, slaughtering entire villages at times only to be welcomed and everyone converting in the next village out of fear. Entering Mecca, he destroyed hundreds of statues of pagan gods, and even destroyed a drawing of Abraham. The muslim army also destroyed the largest library in the world, containing countless scrolls and ancient writings in Alexandria, Egypt, stating that any writing that is not about god is offensive and any writing they find that is about god or the qua'ran is redundant and therefore unnecessary, and so they destroyed the library at Alexandria. Cutting off heads, cutting of arms and legs, torture, mass murder, pillaging and stealing... its even okay to lie if it furthers Islam. So, the moderates have a tough time explaining how they can be moderates and be true muslims when the Hadiths and the Qu'ran are so clear on the activities and administration of brutality upon non-muslims. Even though they say they treat non-muslims fairly and are accepting of Jews and Christians, the behaviours and attitudes (and laws) in these Islamic nations paint a different picture in the real world and to the people who suffer under Islamic rule without a voice to call out and without fair representation. People are afraid of the extremists, but that fear has allowed the image of Islam to be smeared with distrust, and rightly so. The moderates know who the extremists are, yet they are allowed to preach on the radio, on television, and in their mosques without any backlash or disapproval. The silence of the moderates within their own culture is one thing, but for them to turn to the rest of the world and say, "those aren't real muslims" and "Islam is a religion of peace" is another. It would be laughable if it wasn't so sick.
