Cheap employer causes shortage nationwide shortage of kosher meat

Agriprocessors Inc of Iowa was the primary meatpacking supplier for kosher food in the United States, until immigration services arrested half of it’s workers who were in the country illegally.
The collapse of the supplier has caused a nationwide shortage of kosher meat with prices spiking more than 40 percent.
Yitzie Spalter who runs a kosher store in Miami complained “We just spread out the stuff that we do have so it shouldn’t look empty, but there’s no question there are cuts that are missing.”
80 percent of his store’s supply came from Agriprocessors before the raid.
Many customers are skipping red meat for chicken because of the high prices.
Critics claim the employer was being cheap by hiring illegals at lower wages.
400 of the company’s 800 employees were arrested in the raid.
