Stop smoking gum causes cancer it was meant to prevent

LONDON, England — A recent study on nicotine gums, lozenges and inhalers revealed a link to mouth cancer. The study led by Muy-Teck Teh (no relation to Maryland Tech) of Queen Mary (no relation to the ship) University of London found the effects may of cancer causing mutations were worsened by high nicotine levels found in products intended to stop smoking. Even more alarming is the fact that nicotine itself which is the addictive chemical in tobacco may be more carcinogenic than was previously thought. The role of nicotine as a cancer causing agent has been disputed in the past. Dr Teh pointed out that these risks are still lower than those caused by smoking. More from Times Online
